Usually, our Saturday mornings consist of sleeping in until about 9:30 a.m., then we both get out of bed, and move to the couch where we eat cereal and watch PBS (prior to that, it was the Food Network but those were the salad days when we had cable). Then, around 11 a.m. or noon, we’d shower and venture out of the house to go run some times necessary, but often not, errands.
After the events of this week, our Saturday mornings will most likely look very different for a very long time. The east-side Hatgases have some big news which I’m sure you are perceptive enough to guess if you’ve been paying the slightest attention to our lives at all or reading any of our blog posts since the new year.
We’ve bought a house!
Finally, the negotiations are over. While we are not out of the water for another few weeks (we don’t close until April 24th), we feel pretty certain that there is little that could derail things at this point. The house is perfect. It’s a 3 BR colonial located in tropical University Heights. There are alots of things that are great about the house. Among the top 5: 1) it’s in good shape, 2) it’s in a great neighborhood, 3) it’s just the right size with room to grow a little or have out of town guests, 4) it’s 1/2 a mile from JCU so Kevin can walk to work and I can walk when I get home from work because of #2 above, and 5) there is a ton of potential!
We are very excited.
However, with all of this excitment comes the reality that we now need to figure out how to put 3 years worth of living in a tiny apartment into boxes and move it to this new space. Obviously, it’s not that we have lots of furniture. It’s that we have lots of stuff. Our task this month is to make sure that we get rid of the things we don’t use and move only the things we will.
Wish us luck.
